Hal ini juga semakin diperkuat dengan menjamurnya sajian minuman es kopi susu gula aren yang banyak digemari. Selain itu, banyak juga yang beranggapan bahwa sajian kopi dengan gula aren lebih sehat dibanding gula putih biasa. Melansir dari <em>DetikHealth<\/em>, gula putih ini berasal dari tebu dan juga tanaman bit atau umbi-umbian. Gula aren memiliki nilai indeks glikemik yang lebih rendah yaitu 35, sedangkan pada gula putih sebesar 58. Indeks glikemik (GI) adalah skala atau angka yang diberikan pada makanan tertentu berdasarkan seberapa besar makanan tersebut meningkatkan kadar gula darahnya, skala yang digunakan adalah 0-100. Indeks glikemik disebut rendah jika berada di skala kurang dari 50, indeks glikemik sedang jika nilainya 50-70 dan indeks glikemik tinggi jika angkanya di atas 70.<\/p><p>Indeks glikemik yang rendah juga berkat kandungan serat makanan yang disebut inulin. Serat inulin dikenal dapat menjaga kadar gula darah tetap normal. Studi juga menemukan bahwa gula aren mengandung kalium, fosfor, zink, zat besi, mangan, tembaga, hingga dosis kecil antioksidan, seperti polifenol, flavonoid, dan antosianidin. Gula aren juga kaya akan vitamin B8 (<em>inositol<\/em>), asam folat, vitamin B1 (<em>tiamin<\/em>), dan vitamin B2 (riboflavin) yang berfungsi untuk membentuk sel-sel sehat.
